Hi there! My sweet border collie, Daisy, was diagnosed with IMHA last Tuesday. Her PCV has never dropped below 20, which is when they told me she would need a blood transfusion. Her PCV levels were increasing by Friday and were at 32. She has taken a turn for the worse and her levels are holding steady at 26-28 right now. She’s extremely lethargic and her liver enzymes are very high. The vet isn’t sure if she’s having a reaction to the Imuran or if it’s because of the disease itself that’s causing the high liver enzymes. I’m so worried about her, I hate to see her suffer but I want to give her a chance to fight this if she can. Has anyone had a similar experience with the high liver enzymes and the PCV decreasing? Like I said, she hasn’t had to have a blood transfusion but she’s really sick. Even last week we when her levels were 32, she wasn’t herself. She just lays around all the time. It makes me so sad. Anyways, if anyone has any stories to share or advice, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

Hello, really sorry to hear your fur baby has/is going through this. We’ve been absent due to another of our fur baby’s passing…and had to take some time to recuperate.
Our Stella has been in remission for 6 years. The doctor recommend we give her 5 mg of melatonin in the evening before a meal. There is no hard evidence but our vet was also knowledge of alternative medicine. Again, this is not medical advise it is just what we experienced.
All the best!
